ABOUT HEDGEHOG LODGE
Hello, and welcome to the official Hedgehog Lodge website. Here at the Lodge, we specialize specifically in rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming hedgehogs to give them a second chance at a great life. We also sometimes take in other small critters in need. Secondly, we sometimes focus on healthy, responsible breeding of some of our home-bred hedgehogs.
What is it like to own a hedgehog?
The average pet hedgehog is a lot like a calmer, smaller, lazier ferret. They don't tend to be overly messy, have virtually no odor and are a lot easier on allergy sufferers due to the fact that they don't have much hair and don't shed. Most hedgehogs love to run in their wheel and can be sucessfully litter trained.
Hedgehogs require owners who are very patient during the initial process of bonding. A hedgehog will retreat into it's quilly shell when it feel threatened, so you cannot force a hedgehog to love you.
When sucessfully bonded to their owners, hedgehogs are comical, entertaining little friends to have. Their personalities vary from brave and adventurous to shy and relaxed or a combination of the two. Every hedgehog has a unique personality so owning one is always an exciting experience.
